L’église Saint-Jacques (ancienne abbatiale bénédictine) (GR013BIS)

Presentation

As the capital of an ecclesiastic principality for eight centuries, the city of Liège was a major political, religious, artistic and cultural centre in the heart of medieval Europe. It was therefore a natural location for many religious institutions. No fewer than seven collegiate churches sprouted around the Cathedral of Our Lady and Saint Lambert at the turn of the second millennium, as well as several abbeys and monasteries. These buildings now serve as precious reminders of the city's prestigious past. We invite you to explore Saint Paul's Cathedral, the worthy successor of the Cathedral of Our Lady and Saint Lambert, which was destroyed during the Revolution. Do not miss the old abbey church of Saint James's, one of the most beautiful buildings in the country (flamboyant architecture, vault paintings, 14th-century stalls, 16th-century stained glass windows, Baroque statues by Del Cour, the 1600 organ and sideboard...)
Note: the cathedral may only be accessed during opening hours and may be subject to access restrictions depending on religious services. Optional: 2-hour in-depth visit of Saint James's Church.
