Presentation

Until the early 19th century, theatre- and opera-goers in Liège used to pour into shacks on La Batte, where they stood while they watched plays in the candlelight. 1820 saw a huge improvement on these precarious and uncomfortable conditions with the inauguration of Liège's Royal Theatre, home to the Opéra Royal de Wallonie. Discover this institution's magnificent performance hall and its recently restored wings to appraise its evolution and the tweaks made to meet the requirements of today's shows and staging. The upper terrace offers an unobstructed view of the city centre.
